The Need

Mexico City is a large source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor. The colonia of La Merced has one of the highest rates of prostitution in Latin America. Located there, El Pozo de Vida works in prevention, intervention, and restoration. Dunamis (which means ‘power’ in Latin) is their community center that gives a transformation space for women involved in prostitution in one of the biggest red light districts in Mexico.

The Support

Hummingbirds awarded Dunamis with a grant to pay for the construction and materials for a safe room in the community center, equipped with small kitchen appliances and cookware, learning materials (computer, printer, notebooks, pencils, English books, painting books and brushes), condoms, yoga mats, aprons, and blinds for the windows. Hummingbirds brought gift bags to Pozo de Vida and their Dunamis community center for women. Brands like Gillette, Maybelline and The Honest Company generously sponsored the gifts with hygiene items and beauty products. Microsoft donated a laptop computer to help Dunamis in their efforts to track the close to 3,000 women in need of services.
